is the visible part of the tooth. A protective layer called enamel covers the crown. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"\u039c\u03b5\u03c4\u03ac\u03c6\u03c1\u03b1\u03c3\u03b7\"><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"el\">The neck is the area of \u200b\u200bthe tooth between the crown and the root. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"\u039c\u03b5\u03c4\u03ac\u03c6\u03c1\u03b1\u03c3\u03b7\"><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"el\">The root is the part of the tooth that extends through the gums and into the jawbone.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first teeth begin to break through the gums at about 6 months of age. Usually, the first two teeth to emerge are the two lower central incisors (the two lower front teeth). Next, the four upper front teeth emerge. After that, other teeth slowly begin to fill in, usually in pairs &#8212; one on each side of the upper or lower jaw &#8212; until all 20 teeth are in (10 in the upper and 10 in the lower jaw) the child is 2 \u00bd up to 3 years old.
