In case one or more of your teeth have been extracted, there are several ways to replace them. An alternative is to install a dental bridge or temporary bridge. However, the most ideal solution, most of the time, is the placement of dental implants. Implants replace the roots of teeth<\/strong> that have been extracted and artificial teeth rest on them.<\/p>\n<\/div>

What are dental implants?<\/span><\/span><\/h3><\/header>

A dental implant is essentially an \u201cartificial tooth root\u201d, which is made of titanium or zirconium. A component called an abutment is applied to the implant, which replaces the molar of the tooth and finally the artificial tooth is stabilized on it. In simpler terms, a dental implant is a small structure, something like a screw, which is placed in the jawbone to replace a natural tooth. It works like the root of the tooth and over time becomes one with the bone and thus remains stable.<\/p>\n<\/div>

In general the three most important factors that determine whether a patient can get implants or not are a) the general health of the patient, b) the presence of periodontitis<\/strong>, c) and whether the percentage of bone is sufficient. If the bone of the jaw in which we want to place the implants has been particularly rejected or for some reason has never developed properly, a bone graft<\/strong> can be placed in the first phase, followed by the placement of the implants.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Placement process<\/span><\/span><\/h3><\/header>

First, a careful clinical and x-ray examination of the oral cavity and especially of the area where the implant is to be inserted must be performed.
\nOnce the position and size of the implant is finalized, it is placed inside the jawbone below the gums<\/strong>. We will not refer to techniques and ways of placing the implants \u2013 direct loading or not, internal or external connection implants with the abutment, way of connecting the implant to the abutment.<\/p>\n<\/div>

So after the placement of the implant, the gums are stitched back to their original position. Little by little, the process of osseointegration begins, during which bone is synthesized by the osteoblasts around the implant. For the upper jaw this process is completed in about 5 months while for the lower jaw in 3 months.<\/p>\n

After the required time has passed and a proper impression of the implant and the soft tissues around it has been made, the abutment is placed on the implant. The laboratory-made artificial tooth is welded or screwed onto the abutment.<\/p>\n

When more than one tooth is missing, then these are replaced by placing a bridge, which has implants as end supports.<\/p>\n<\/div>
